'Exit' Novi Sad

Music festival 'Exit' in Novi Sad starts this year on July, 12 and lasts until July, 15. Lots of young people from all over the world are visiting this festival. There are some tourist information available on the websites: http://www.inyourpocket.com/serbia/novi-sad and http://www.exitfest.org/en/content/local-information that can be used in a preparation of the trip to Novi Sad.

The foreigners who would like to learn some basic phrases in Serbian and/or to bring a map with some sightseeing information of Novi Sad with them, they can use Your Experience of Serbia_ NS edition (YES_NS) and read More about YES_NS .

New on the website: YES

On page Download [18+] there are two new issues dedicated to adults. These materials are meant as small tourist guides for people visiting Serbia. They are based on Frazice (see page

The basic issue is called Your Experience of Serbia  abbreviated YES. There is also a special issue made for visitors of Novi Sad (YES_NS).

What contains YES?
In this guide you can find the following:
- Pronunciation of Serbian letters;
- Basic words and phrases;
- Examples of conversations in various situations (e.g. in a restaurant, on a petrol station);
- Suggestions (what to eat, what to visit…);
- Map(s) with some sightseeing tips.

Why this guide?
Because:
• It is very difficult to find books for foreigners with the basic phrases in Serbian, because they are printed in a limited edition and sold out quickly. YES is meant to solve that problem.
• Despite the fact that nowadays more people speak foreign languages and more restaurants have the menus in English, this did not become a standard yet. Moreover, every foreigner is not familiar with the typical Serbian dishes. Therefore, some suggestions of what to eat and drink are given in this material.
• Some tourists would like to try to make a small talk in a language of the country they are visiting or they might come into a situation that the interlocutor does not speak any foreign language. YES gives the basic situations the tourist might get into.
• People, who travel a lot and have just a few days to visit a city, usually do not like to carry around a lot of prints with the city information. YES gives the basic information that can be useful to the visitor on a short stay. 

What is specific for YES?
YES is specific by the following:
- It can be always downloaded for free from internet and printed out (completely or a part of it);
- It contains basic information about Serbian language, phrases and words;
- It gives examples of various situations a tourist can get into;
- It gives tips for traditional dishes, sightseeing…;
- It contains a map with basic information to easily find your way and also some sightseeing tips;
- It is thin, concise and easy to bring along.

Who is the target group?
It is meant for adults, because it contains some suggestions for alcoholic beverages as well more complex phrases and situations than Frazice.

'Frazice' suitable also for children in Serbia

Frazice can be used also as a small study material to learn phrases in English (or another language) by using phrases in Serbian. Therefore, this material can be used also by children growing up in Serbia to learn phrases in English or some other language. There are just a couple of typical Serbian terms (like ‘burek’). These terms you can substitute by some other terms typical for English-speaking area or some other area.

Guideline

- To learn and practise English:

First, children read the right column (Serbian version of a phrase). Then they can read the English version of this phrase in the left column.

- To learn and practise other language:

Write down the translation of the Serbian phrase on the line in the left column (under the English text). When a child reads the phrase in Serbian, he/she can find the translation of this text in the other language in the left column.

Frazice_vežbe (exercises) are made based on the new material Frazice.You can download it from the page Ekstra/Extra.

Purpose

In this study material the following can be practised:

• Making and completing phrases and expressions in Serbian. This can be done by using illustrations and/or sentences written in English. The concept of this material is made in such a way that a child does not have to speak English to be able to do these exercises.
• Translation of Serbian expressions in English or any other language (i.e. the language of the country where the child lives).

Target group

This study material is meant for somewhat older children. The age is not indicated, because a knowledge of Serbian language is the most determining factor as well as the ability of a child to make a translation of simple sentences from Serbian in another language and vice versa.

Essential

It is necessary that the child speaks relatively well Serbian and that he/she is able to translate sentences from Serbian in another language and vice versa.

It is important to read the guideline given in the beginning of the material. This guideline gives a short explanation how to use this material.

Printing

You can print out the material in A4 or A5 format as explained in the post How to use Frazice .
