Audio version of Serbian Latin and Cyrillic alphabet

On page Audio you can find the audio versions of Serbian Latin and Cyrillic alphabet. These versions are made with a child’s voice, because this site is mainly intended for children and to make learning of these letters more interesting for them.

New on site: Posters Latin and Cyrillic alphabet

On page Download [6-9] you can download the posters with Latin and Cyrillic alphabet. The original size is A3, but you can also print it in a smaller size. In the next post it will be more said about the printing options.

There are four posters:

Latin letters of Serbian alphabet are shown on the first poster. The second one contains the Cyrillic letters of Serbian alphabet. Those two posters are illustrated and beside the print (block) letters the handwritten letters are also shown of both, Latin and Cyrillic alphabet.

In the third one there are Cyrillic letters written under the Latin ones in order that corresponds to the Latin alphabet. It is meant for people who are learning Cyrillic alphabet and are familiar with the Latin one. Adults trying to learn Cyrillic alphabet can use it as well. 

In the fourth one, Latin letters are written under the Cyrillic ones in order that corresponds to the Cyrillic alphabet (azbuka). Children who know the Cyrillic alphabet can use this poster to quickly find the Latin version of the letter.

About the titels Latinijada and Ćirilijada

The idea was to give a recognizable title of the study material. In era of Olympiadas worldwide and popular events such as “Kobasicijada“, “Čvarkijada” etc. in Serbia  (please, search on internet for more information), the titles of this study material got the name in the spirit of these titles.

As the name said, the Serbian Latin alphabet is introduced and practised in Latinijada 1-4 and the Cyrillic alphabet in Ćirilijada 1-4.

Latinijada 3 (English version)

In Latinijada 3 the handwritten letters of Serbian Latin alphabet are introduced in similar way as in Latinijada 1 (see  Latinijada 1 (English version) ).Text of the exercises is written in Latin print (block) letters to allow children to read the text themselves since they are already familiar with the block letters.

The specific feature of Latinijada 3 is that the practising of writing of the handwritten letters are done in four ways:

1. In the first four tables only new letter should be written in the given words;

2. In next six tables already learnt letters are omitted. These letters should be added. In this way children are practising writing the letters, but they also have to pay attention which letters to add and in which order;

3. In next five tables all words are written in print (block) Latin letters and the words should be rewritten in handwritten letters. But some picture of the words are missing and a child should draw it. If he/she understands the word, he/she will draw it easily, but if he/she doesn’t understand the word, he/she can ask for the explanation. In this way the exercise becomes more interactive;

4. In the rest of the tables it is given only a picture of a thing or a creature. A child should write down the name of the thing or creature in handwritten letters.

In Latinijada 3 as in Latinijada 1, one extra exercise is added on each page where a new letter has been introduced.

Latinijada 2 (English version)

In this material children can practice printed (block) letters of Serbian Latin alphabet. These letters are introduced and learnt in Latinijada 1.

The purpose of the exercises is to practice writing, reading, text understanding and enrich children’s vocabulary. The topics are following modern trends and children are getting familiar with the very basic grammar rules.

Latinijada 1 (English version)

Print (block) letters of Serbian Latin alphabet are introduced in Latinijada 1.

A few examples of the words containing this letter are given on each page where a new letter has been introduced. Writing of small and capital letters can be practiced in the given exercises on the same page. One extra exercise with this letter is added at the end of this page.

After first fifteen letters there is Izazov (Challenge). In Izazov there are several exercises with the letters learnt. Subsequently, new letters are introduced and Izazov comes after a set of five letters.

Concept of Latinijada 1-4 and Ćirilijada 1-4

A few words about the concept of the study material: First, Latin letters are introduced in the first four issues Latinijada 1-4. After that the Cyrillic letters are introduced in Ćirilijada 1-4. The reason for this approach is given on page English/Engleski.

The print (block) letters are introduced in Latinijada 1-2 and Ćirilijada 1-2, whereas the handwritten letters are exercised in Latinijada 3-4 and Ćirilijada 3-4. This is specified as well in the title of each material (see Download [6-9]).

In the issues Latinijada 1&3 and Ćirilijada 1&3 the letters are introduced. On the page where a new letter has been introduced and practised, there is one extra exercise with this letter. These exercises differ from page to page to make the material more interesting for children. After introduction of several letters, there is ‘Izazov’ (‘Challenge’). The exercises in ‘Izazov’ are made to practice the  letters learnt.

The letters learned are exercised further in Latinijada 2&4 and Ćirilijada 2&4.

The idea of the whole study material was to work with terms and sentences familiar to children and to avoid uninteresting repeating of the same exercises. The exercises are designed to be in line with modern developments (e.g. mentioning SMS etc.). More about the adopted concept you can find on page  English/Engleski.

How to use the study material from this site

It is very simple, but still herewith a short guideline:

1.    Read more about this material on page English/Engleski if you want to learn more about this site and the material.

2.    Go to page Download [6-9] and click on material you want to download.

You don’t have to register to download the material.
Download is for free.

At the moment you have a choice between the material to study and learn Latin and Cyrillic alphabet (print and handwritten letters) ans solutions of the study material. Soon some othe issues will be available.

3.    When you open the material, you can print it out directly or save it.

You can print the whole material or a part of it. It can be print out in black & white or in colour. Most of the exercises is not necessary to print in colour, but children would enjoy it more.

4.    Give the printed material to the children to fill it in.

The exercises are mainly intuitive, but a small help of adults is needed (for instance, in reading the text of a problem for children who do not read yet).

Optional: The study material can be used by adults as well (e.g. adults who want to learn Cyrillic alphabet).
